Prompt Vault

Install

Install Prompt Vault from the Chrome Web Store, then pin it: click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome's toolbar and pin Prompt Vault.

After installing (or updating), reload any AI tabs you already had open so the in-page features activate on them.

Saving prompts

  • Click the toolbar icon → ＋ New, or open the side panel to manage everything.
  • Give the prompt a title and body. Add tags to find it faster later.
  • Right-click selected text on any page → Save selection to Prompt Vault.

Folders & search

Open the side panel for the full library. Create nested folders, drag prompts and folders to reorder (Custom sort), star favorites, and use the search box to filter across titles, bodies, and tags instantly.

Variables

Put {{name}} anywhere in a prompt to create a fill-in field. For example:

Rewrite this email to a {{role}} about {{product}}.

When you insert it, Prompt Vault asks you to fill role and product, then inserts the finished text.

Inserting prompts

Click any prompt in the popup or side panel. Prompt Vault copies it to your clipboard and types it straight into the active AI chat's composer. If a site ever changes its layout, the clipboard copy always works as a fallback — just paste.

The // picker

Type // in any supported chat box to open an in-page picker. Use the ↑ ↓ arrows to navigate and Enter to insert. You can change the trigger in Settings.

Capturing messages

Save the last message from a conversation with the floating ＋ button (bottom-right of supported chat sites) or the capture shortcut. It opens a prefilled editor so you can title and file it.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + P — open the in-page picker.
  • Ctrl/⌘ + Shift + S — save the last message.
Chrome doesn't always auto-assign these. Set or change them at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. The floating button and right-click menu work without any shortcut.

Backup & sync

Your prompts sync across the Chrome browsers where you're signed in to your Google account — no account needed. In Settings you can Export everything to a JSON file and Import it back on another machine or as a backup.

Troubleshooting

Insert or // isn't working

  1. Reload the AI tab. Content features only activate on tabs opened after install/update.
  2. Open the site's DevTools console — you should see [Prompt Vault] content script loaded.
  3. Set the shortcut at chrome://extensions/shortcuts if the keyboard command does nothing.
  4. Insert still copies to your clipboard even if a site's composer can't be typed into — just paste.

Supported sites

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Studio, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Poe, DeepSeek, and Grok.
